Setout and Floorplanner

Part of the questions on Setout and other planning tools

Floorplanner is a general floor planner with image exports up to 8K, free for up to 5 projects and then paid for by credits or a subscription. Setout is free, needs no account, reads a Singapore HDB or condo plan from a photo or PDF, and prices the paint and flooring off the same drawing.

Which to pick

Setout, if

  • You have an HDB or condo floor plan as a photo or PDF and want its walls read off it.
  • You want to know how much paint and flooring the design takes, and what that costs at the rates you are quoted.
  • You do not want to make an account.

Floorplanner, if

  • You want polished HD or 4K pictures of the design.
  • You are keeping several projects going at once.
  • You want the library and custom templates its plans list.

Where the two differ most

Floorplanner’s paid side is about pictures: its credits and subscriptions buy higher-resolution exports, more floors and no wait between exports. Setout’s whole point is the other end of the job: a quote measured off the plan, so the picture and the price come from one drawing. It makes no rendered images at all.

If you are choosing for a flat in Singapore, the practical difference is the start. Setout takes HDB’s own floor plan as a photo or PDF and finds the walls, or opens a furnished 4-room or 2-room Flexi layout to change.

Questions

Is Floorplanner free?

For casual use, yes: its pricing page says you can make up to 5 free projects, limited to 3 floors with 3 designs in total, with SD-quality image exports that carry a watermark. Higher resolution and more floors are bought with credits or a subscription.

What is a free alternative to Floorplanner for an HDB flat?

Setout is free and needs no account. It reads an HDB or condo floor plan from a photo or PDF, lets you furnish it and see it in 3D, and measures the paint and flooring off the plan for a priced quote. It does not make rendered images.

Does Setout put a watermark on what I export?

A quote made with Setout ends with a line saying so, and a shared design link says it was made with Setout. A firm can pay to have both removed and its own logo put on the quote.

Try it on your own flat. Nothing to install, and no account.
